montage d'un cockpit integré sur vélo de route

Fitting a Lapierre integrated cockpit: the complete guide

Fitting a Lapierre integrated stem + handlebar combo requires a bit of method, but with the right tools and a few tips, it is a job any careful cyclist can handle.

Equipment needed

Basic advice before starting

Before getting the Allen keys out, take the time to prepare the installation properly:

  • Work on a stable workstand, to stop the bike from moving.
  • Protect the frame with a cloth to avoid scratches while routing the cables.
  • Use a torque wrench: the cockpit is carbon, so never tighten blindly.
  • Have some carbon assembly paste ready for the contact areas between the steerer and the stem.

Step 1 – Routing the cables and hoses through the stem

Start by routing the Di2 derailleur cables and the hydraulic brake hoses through the stem.

Feed them in through the slot near the steerer tube, then bring them out through the front slot of the cockpit.
Take your time at this stage: smooth routing without kinks or tension is essential to avoid any braking or shifting issues.

Tip: if the hoses are stubborn, use a small guide wire or a magnet to help them through without forcing.

Step 2 – Routing the cables to the levers

Once the cables and hoses come out at the front of the cockpit:

  • Run them inside the handlebar, then guide them towards the openings under each lever.
  • Make sure each cable or hose follows a gentle curve, with no overly tight angle.

⚠️ Warning: too tight a radius or a twisted cable can affect the operation of the front brake or the derailleur. Be sure to adjust the length properly before fixing everything.

Step 3 – Installing the cockpit on the frame

Before fitting the cockpit, install the interface ring between the head tube and the stem.
This part ensures a perfect junction between the cockpit and the frame.

Then position the cockpit on the fork steerer, making sure the handlebar is correctly aligned.
Make sure the cables and hoses run in the grooves provided under the interface ring — none of them must be pinched.

Step 4 – Closing the system

Close everything using the top cap and the bolt supplied with the cockpit.
Tighten it gradually until the play in the headset is removed, while keeping the handlebar rotating smoothly.
Then align the handlebar with the front wheel before doing the final tightening of the stem.

Step 5 – Fitting and adjusting the levers

Fit your brake/shift levers on the handlebar.
Once the position is confirmed, tighten the lever clamps to the recommended torque (generally 6–8 Nm).

💡 Comfort tip: do a quick test in position on the bike before tightening, to check that your wrists stay relaxed.

Step 6 – Bar tape and accessories

Install your favourite computer mount at the front of the cockpit.

Then wrap the bar tape starting from the bottom of the handlebar upwards, making sure each turn overlaps by about 1/3.

Step 7 – Final tightening to torque

Before heading out for a ride, check every bolt:

  • Top cap: 2–3 Nm
  • Stem on carbon steerer: 5–6 Nm
  • Levers: 6–8 Nm

A torque wrench is essential to guarantee a safe installation without damaging the carbon.
